Activities during the test closure 20th September 2020

The annual test closure of the Maeslant Stormsurge Barrier and the Hartelbarrier will take place on 20th September 2020.

This is usually a big public event, unfortunately this year, due to the Covid-19 restrictions we are forced to make a completely different program.

However, we are still able to offer limited access, so those who are interested can see the barrier up close.

This special annual event is even more special this year as the barrier will be closed during the time of the tour. You can see the massive arms floating in the middle of the Waterweg.

This is because the barrier has had a night closure for the first time in its existence and will re-open Sunday afternoon.

You can reserve a place on the tour in one of our timeslots as advertised on our site.

At 12:00 that we have a special English tour. We can only accept 25 people per timeslot.

The program takes one hour. You will start with the tour on the terrain next to the barrier, afterwards you can enjoy the view from our terrace overlooking the Nieuwe Waterweg and the barrier. Included in the tour is a cup of coffee or tea, served with Dutch Apple pie or a hotdog with soft drink. The children can chose from various cookies or hotdog with a soft drink..

Adults    € 10,00

Children €   5,00

Discount cards like the Rotterdam pass are not valid on this day.
